Is being Raped the Victim's fault?

Image
In countries like Pakistan and India, a woman can rarely say that she has not been harassed or abused even once in her life. With babies and girls as young as 2 becoming a victim of abuse, countries such as these are one of the most dangerous countries for a woman to be born in. While movements such as #metoo and #timesup have completely taken over the chauvinistic world by storm, it is still imperative to note that there are still millions of women out there who have yet to come forward with their stories of abuse. So, why is it that even with movements and organisations such as these, women still feel compelled to hide the truth? Well, the answer is a little more complicated than one might think. The Log Kya Kahenge (What Will People Say) Mentality There are numerous reasons why women refuse to report their experiences and even hide them from friends and family. However, one of the biggest reasons is said to be self-blame. This practice of self-blaming is not only caused by the vict

Breast Ironing!

Image
What is Breast ironing? Breast ironing, also known as breast flattening, is the pounding and massaging of a pubescent girl's breasts, using hard or heated objects, to try to make them stop developing or disappear. It is typically carried out by the girl's mother who will say she is trying to protect the girl from sexual harassment and rape, to prevent early pregnancy that would tarnish the family name, or to allow the girl to pursue education rather than be forced into early marriage. It is mostly practiced in parts of Cameroon, where boys and men may think that girls whose breasts have begun to grow are ready for sex. The most widely used implement for breast ironing is a wooden pestle normally used for pounding tubers. Other tools used include leaves, bananas, coconut shells, grinding stones, ladles, spatulas, and hammers heated over coals. However, Breast ironing is extremely painful and can cause tissue damage. Aside from physical effects, many women suffer mental trauma a

Sexual Assaults on Men and Boys Sexual assault can happen to anyone, no matter your age, sexual orientation, or gender identity. Men and boys who have been sexually assaulted or abused may have many of the same feelings and reactions as other survivors of sexual assault, but they may also face some additional challenges because of social attitudes and stereotypes about men and masculinity. Common reactions Men and boys who have been sexually assaulted may experience the same effects of sexual assault as other survivors, and they may face other challenges that are more unique to their experience. Some men who have survived sexual assault as adults feel shame or self-doubt, believing that they should have been “strong enough” to fight off the perpetrator. Many men who experienced an erection or ejaculation during the assault may be confused and wonder what this means. These normal physiological responses do not in any way imply that you wanted,

Let's fight racism!

Image
Racism is more than just being mean Have you ever wondered why a black person can say the n-word, or why Asian people can make jokes about their own race, but as soon as a white person joins in, it’s seen as racist? Power and racism We’ve taken a look at how history and institutions add to racial disadvantages. But the most important way these two things work together is by creating an imbalance of power based on race. This is why a black person can use the n-word, or why Asians can make jokes about their own race. There is no imbalance of power in that exchange. But when a dominant race uses certain language or makes stereotypical jokes about another race that lacks the same historical and institutional power, this is called ‘racism’. Remember that it’s not just language that can be racist. Racist stereotypes can have a big impact on other aspects of a person’s life. Certain races and cultures are the targets of stereotypes that paint them as lazy, dirty or untrustworthy. This can hav
